Question of East Turkestan
The Special Political and Decolonization Committee (Fourth Committee) considers a broad range of issues covering such as decolonization-related agenda items, the effects of atomic radiation, questions relating to information, a comprehensive review of the question of peacekeeping operations as well as a review of special political missions. In this year at HASTRAIN, delegates of this committee will cover the situation of Uighur Turks in Xinjiang, China. Starting in 2014 members of Kashgar’s Muslim Uyghur minority have been detained in Xinjiang’s re-education camps, reportedly aimed at changing the political thinking of detainees, their identities and their religious beliefs via indoctrination and torture. A United Nations panel cited reports in 2018 that 1 to 2 million were being held in internment camps. China has denied the existence of detention centers and referred to the facilities as “vocational education centers.”. There may be some countries that sanctions the actions of Chinese government which some of them are Islamic countries, but considerable amount of people around the world yearns for a clear and unbiased point of view from the area in order for to authorities to take actions, if necessary.
